Video Killed the Radio Star

Last night Danielle & I went on an internet radio show to promote for Twisty.
I don't know how much to really post about the experience, because I don't know what the odds are that they'll be googling us. We did have fun, it was just a little strange.

We had asked friends & cast members to call in to help promote & talk. When the second call came in the dj's looked absolutely shocked.
Show host: We...have another call...
Sidekick: That breaks our call-in record!
Me: Two calls breaks your record?

I think you can listen to the podcast here: www.fearlessradio.com
But I have to warn you - it starts off a little rough. And I think Danielle's mike might have been turned down.

Haircut!

BEFORE

AFTER

This was a pretty drastic change for me - I don't think I've had bangs since grade school. But I really love it.
I ended up at my old salon, Tigerlilie (in Lincoln Square), and the girl who did my hair (Cortne) was awesome. She took her time and explained every step she was taking and why she thought it would look better certain ways. It was a great experience.

SIDESHOT

Yeah!

Gently Exhale

This Monday was the first time that we had actively promoted our show run. One person showed up.
The show was cancelled, obviously.

We are supposed to have a show tonight, I hope there's an audience.

In other news, I need a haircut. But the girl I go to switched salons, to one that is double what I was paying before. So I sat around and let my hair grow out, then went to a different salon, where the girl absolutely wrecked my hair. I really don't want to pay 100 bucks for a haircut, but I don't want ugly hair either. Sigh. Maybe I will just let it grow out until I look crazy.

No Sleeping In

Halloween rehearsal. Sunday. 10 am.
That's right. 10 am.
I don't know about you, but I can't function that early. I kind of want to die.
Here at work, I'm fine. But that's because I'm sitting quietly and no one is talking to me. So I don't have to sound coherent.

After rehearsal I had the best omelette I think I've ever had. Ever. Afterwards I was super sick, for about 4 hours. What the hell? Does that mean I can't have that omelette again? That's hardly fair.

One of Jono's last wishes before he leaves was to see the Second City main stage show. It was great! The whole cast is very, very funny.
I'm still sort of in denial about Jono leaving...and he leaves Friday morning. The last time I will see him is Thursday night. We have been friends for 9 years now, and I hate to think that we could lose touch, the way I have with so many other friends back home.
Also I will miss his cat, Kitty.

I <3 Marcus (today) and...

This little bit of graffitti is on the bathroom stall at the Davis theater.
'I heart Marcus (today) and I'm fucking hott shit.'

That last part could be taken out of context, considering it is in a bathroom.

Zoo Squirrel

Yesterday night was my company's summer event. We had dinner and drinks in the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Even though it was after hours, we were allowed to explore the zoo. It should have been awesome, however most of the animals were not in their little habitats.

But we got to see a few things - black bears & lions. Mostly we saw bunnies and squirrels. But they weren't in cages.

Pencil It In

It feels like I get a little busier with every passing week. I mostly love it, but there are times where I just sigh and wish I could go home and watch tv. (I do watch tv, but at odd hours and mostly on dvd).

My friends and I often discuss how we can't understand the 9-5ers who have nothing outside of work. Don't they get bored? Even if I wasn't an improviser I would still have a hobby. Like....exercising. Or something. Maybe a lack of hobby is why so many people eat their feelings. Just think, they could be crocheting instead.

Mom Time

My mom came to visit this past weekend. It was her second time here and her first time coming alone. Last year my brother made the trip with her.

She came to see the opening night of Twisty, which was really sweet of her. One of the hardest things about living here now is that my family doesn't get to see my shows.

We spent most of the weekend seeing shows and shopping, like silly girls.

She left yesterday morning & I've been kind of down about it. I miss being home.

New York

So that's where I've been the past 5 days. It was only supposed to be 4 days, but more on that later. Read on to hear the details of the trip, it doesn't start off too promising, but it gets better.

FRIDAY

Our flight was at 6am, we took a cab to O'Hare & arrived in plenty of time, plus our flight was on time. Hooray. Upon arriving in NY, we dropped our luggage off at the hotel, then had to amble around for several hours. We couldn't check in until 3.
So we stopped at a diner for breakfast then walked to Times Square.

(Those pics are actually from Sunday, I forgot my camera on Friday. Oh wells.)

After walking for hours, we headed back to the hotel for a quick rest. Our room was pretty nice, 2 double beds & 1 king. Much nicer than what we normally get.

Adal had a show that night with Hunter Family Crest, so we all planned on heading out. Unfortunately, when we all woke up, Andi was running a fever. It seemed to be pretty high too, so she was grounded to the room.

Adal & I had dinner near (not at the same table) some other improvisers at the Trailer Park Cafe. It was good at first(more on that later).
I went and watched HFC do their show, it was awesome. Maybe the best show I have seen them do.

I had full intentions of hanging out in the green room with the free beer afterwards, but I started to feel a little sluggish. So Adal walked me to the hotel then went back out.
Cut to 3am. I wake up to use the restroom and suddenly start throwing up my dinner. It. Was. Awful. Maybe the worst food-sick I've ever gotten. Ick.

I almost slept on the floor in the bathroom, but I ended up dragging myself back to bed.

SATURDAY

I still didn't feel 100%, but this was the day of the ITI show, so I tried to make due. ITI (sans Dan, who had a meeting with another team) went with Jorin, George, Rob, and Jill to Little Italy for lunch.
I was super quiet the whole time, because I still wasn't at my best, but I liked getting to see Little Italy. It's very cute. Honestly, the memory of that trip is somewhat hazy.

Everyone headed to see Dan's show, but Adal stayed with me at the hotel. Good thing too, I started running a fever and he had to go on an aspirin run. We took a nap and woke up in time to get ready for our show.
At this point, I was feeling better, but still a little weak and queasy. However, we had a great and fun show. Once the adrenaline kicked in, I didn't even feel sick anymore.

After the show, Adal, Dan, Andi, Rob & I headed to a French restaurant that we had made reservations at. Super fancy. I had some variety of french duck (so tasty). The best part was dessert - a warm chocolate cake with secret chocolate sauce inside.

I went back to the hotel to rest while everyone else went out, but it was okay, because the next day I was all better.

SUNDAY

Breakfast in bed while watching reruns of DeGrassi. So lame, so fun.

We all headed to UCB to watch Adal, Jorin, and Louie perform (Pudding-Thank-You).
It was a great, great show. One of their best.

Afterwards it was ITI run around and play time. So we headed to FAO Schwartz, of course.

This pic is only a portion of the store, taken from the second level:

That dragon in the window costs a cool 5 grand.

Lego People!

Hey look the 'Big' piano!

The guys giving the demonstration were pretty rad.

We had lunch at none other than the delicious Carnegie Deli.

Dan actually finished off almost all of his entire sandwich. Our waiter told him 'Great job' when he took his plate. Dan was miserable for the rest of the day.

We aimlessly walked around some more and ended up back in Times Square.
Where Adal & I had the delight of visiting Madame Tousseau's Wax Museum. This was maybe one of my favorite parts of the trip, so there are tons of pics. But I will only post a few:

After that we met up with the rest of the gang at Dave&Busters. Except that Andi & I slipped out to buy stuff for a little bit. Shh.

MONDAY

Today our plan was to hit the village for shopping before our late flight, so we headed out there. It then began pouring. We ducked into a little cafe, which ended up having excellent food & drinks.
Then Dan got a call.

You guessed it. Our flight was cancelled.
The earliest we could get another flight was the next day at 4pm. We took it. What choice did we have? So we booked another night in the same hotel and enjoyed the rest of our lunch.

After some family/work-related calls, the rain had stopped, so we headed out to shop. We had a lot of fun and that area is really neat. We didn't get a whole bunch, but I found some super cute earrings and the boys all got sunglasses. Dan accidentally bought ladies sunglasses.

That night we went to Chinatown to have dinner at Wo Hop, and I think that was my favorite food of the entire trip. Definitely the best chinese food I have ever had.
Then we got chair massages at a late night massage-place.

Dan could barely fit his freakish legs into the chair and all of the employees were laughing and asking him if he knew Yao Ming.

TUESDAY

We didn't have a huge amount of time until we had to be at the airport, so we went to have brunch & walk around. I ended up doing more shopping then I had the whole trip. Good thing we stayed, because I got THE BEST jacket. And Adal surprised me with THE BEST Beatles shirt.

We took a cab to the airport only to find that we were delayed. Again and again. We finally got in around 9 that night.

In the end, the whole trip was awesome. The extra day ended up being one of my favorites. And I really like being able to walk around in Yankees attire and not get yelled at.

My work can't seem to make up it's mind on whether or not this blog should be blocked. Let's hope it stays un-blocked now. They seem to be unsure of what to block in general. I'm not sure how the whole thing works, I just know that I can't look at Cute Overload anymore.

So the Rabble had a very good show last Thursday, at least in my opinion. Everyone seemed to agree. It makes me sad that I'm going to be missing our next show (this Sunday), because I will be in New York at the Del Close Marathon. In fact, most of the team will be out of town. But 4 of us will be here, so they will play with sit-ins. I guess I'm not that sad, cause hey, New York.

Twisty starts next Saturday at 9. We still haven't had a meeting for it. We were supposed to have a meeting, but someone loves to put things off. Meeting or no, we open next Saturday & my mom will be here to watch. So that's pretty cool. She hasn't been able to visit since last summer & I'm looking forward to seeing her.
