A Recap

I'm finally over that fiendish cold that stole 2 weeks of my life. Damn you cold!

Last night we had our last Second City preview show, I think it went over well. A lot of my lovely friends came out and watched. They said they had a good time, I choose to believe them.

The Hilter song went over well, I was so nervous/excited right before it started, but by the end I was just excited. I love that I wrote something that people are ashamed to laugh at. Most of them covered their faces while laughing, to hide it. Not Adal though, you could hear him clearly.
As a whole the show went splendidly, Andi's song was great, so was the lesbian scene, and me & Dan's "dance".

Excitedly! I officially know the entire Thriller dance and am ready to get down in the upcoming Halloween shows. So. Watch. Out.

Bedtime

Everything is quiet, the world is dark.

Thoughts race so fast they are indistinguishable.
My heart begins to pound, its beating reverberating off my chest.
Breathing takes effort, quick shallow gasps.
Shaking, I fight my body.
Breathe deep. Breathe slow.
I will my heart to calm.

Eyes closed, I breathe.
In, out.

The storm has ended,
And I alone felt it pass,
At last there is peace.

Shout Out

to Jason Chin

I'm taking Jason's movie elective on Sunday nights. It is, by far, one of the most fun classes I have ever taken. AND I'm learning! Wow.

I met Jason last fall when I was interning, he needed someone to take pictures/hold up flashcards during the Movie (back when it was brand new). I offered to help, Jason was nice and I really didn't have much going on back then, outside of class.

Helping out with the movie was a great learning experience for me. I often watched the show from the booth as Jason ran lights and sound. And mumbled notes under his breath. I don't think there is a better way to learn than hearing a coach giving notes during a performance. I got a wider understanding of what was happening on stage, as opposed to just it's entertainment value.

My first Thanksgiving away from home I was invited to Jason's apartment for an "orphan's" Thanksgiving. I went, even though my social awkwardness was screaming away in my brain. It ended up being quite fun, with rounds of Guitar Hero and Celebrity. It definitely made me feel more a part of the improv community.

In the pic up top, Jason is dj-ing for the iO Dance Party, which would not exist without him.

Thanks Jason Chin, for everything.

Insult to Injury

It's a very wonderful feeling to step on stage with a group of people who feel like family.
To perform in a show and have so much fun.
To be entertained and delighted by your castmates.
To step off stage knowing that show was the best show yet.
To know that all the hard work has paid off.
To be free - to perform any time, any where, any way and never once worry that someone won't have your back.

I love you guys.

Florida

I spent Thursday thru Monday morning in Florida with my lovely improv group, Insult to Injury.

The 5 of us crammed into Dan's parents pool house late Wednesday night, only to awake at 5:30am Thursday to drive 4 hours to Disney World.

Disney World is amazing. The group favorite was Space Mountain. By the way - If you go to Disney World, for god's sake use the Speed Passes. They are free and you won't wait in line for longer than 15 minutes, while the other chumps wait for more than an hour.

We spent that night in a hotel, because on Friday we taught workshops (Andi & I taught 2 together- Group Scenework & Movement) and peformed to a welcoming standing-room-only crowd at the University of Florida. Also we got paid. AND they made us flyers -

We drove approx 5 hours back to Dan's (we had Whataburger on the way, mmm). The next day was spent drinking and lazing in Dan's pool. That night we had a show hosted by Mod 27, a Floridian improv group. Another packed house, another delightful show.

Sunday we took a fan boat tour through the Everglades. Not only was it awesome, it was free because the guy was worried we wouldn't see anything. Also he was from Skokie. And we did see gators. Bunches.

That night we went to the beach - my first time ever. That's right kids, I have officially seen the ocean. It's pretty.

Here's me and Adal, sitting on the beach...waiting for Dan to sit on his towel after we dug a good-sized hole underneath it.

It was a wonderful trip, by far one of the best I've ever had.
